Year of the Horse

Something to look forward to this weekend, apparently it is Chinese New Year and 2014 is the Year of the Horse. Which is also CD Sunday Challenge's theme this week. Here is my entry.

Been really into the clean and simple card lately. This is no exception. I have used a horse from the Jayne Netley Mephew CD from Joanna Sheen, using backing papers from Dovecraft, yellow ribbon and clear gems. I have also stamped a sentiment in green that is from Do Crafts.

A close up of the beautiful horse and stamped sentiment.

Thanks for looking xx

Here Kitty Kitty

Hello Lovelies,

I pretty much squealed this morning when I went to check what the CD Sunday Challenge theme is this week and discovered it was cats!! Everyone who knows me, knows that I love cats and we have one of our own called Salem. My boyfriend's mum also loves cats so I thought I'd make her a cat mother's day card.

I found this theme easy to find an image.I have used this adorably cute photo from Joanna Sheen's Furry Friends. This CD uses photographs from Rachael Hale, who is also my favourite animal photographer. I have also used backing paper from Crafters Companion's BeBunni Birthday.

I matt and layered with gold mirror card, purple and gold swirly paper from Hobbycraft and die cut flourish in gold, paper flowers, pearls, gems and buttons.

Here is a picture of our cat Salem for those kitty lovers out there.

Thank you for viewing my blog, any comments are welcome xx

Suzy goes grunge! Crafting Musketeers GDT

Ever wondered what my cards would look like in a grunge style? Well know you are about to find out! I am sooo sooo very excited to show you this card. It must be my most absolute favourite make EVER!

I was asked to create a Guest Design Team make for the popular Crafting Musketeers Challenge #9 Blog for their current Grunge theme. First thoughts... "Oh my goodness, what is grunge?" All my followers know that I love everything cute and girly so this seemed so not me. But after a bit of research on the theme, I agreed to give it a go. Well they are called challenges for a reason, right?

So off I went to my local craft store and purchased some dark moody paper and Distress Ink from Tim Holtz in Vintage Photo colour. Armed with my trusty make up sponges, non-stick crafting mat, guillotine and Cuttlebug I got to work.

The result of what I have made has blown my mind. I just hope you like it you too.

I took a cream A5 size cardstock and distress the edges, then took 3 backing patterned papers in green, beige and purple and distressed them too.The adorable image of a sleeping tiger cub on a branch is from Joanna Sheen's CD Furry Friends printed on gentle gloss paper. To continue the branch theme I die cut two images of branches in blank card with a die from Marianne Designs. The sentiment is stamped in black. The roses and brass effect bird are from the most amazing embellishment pack from DoCrafts in the new Sew Lovely range.

A friend said it was a "good interpretation of grunge in my usual style". That's good enough for me.

Do get involved in the challenge, there is a lovely prize from Visible Image up for grabs. The challenge is open until 29th Jan at 8pm.

Thank you so much for taking the effort to look at my blog, any comments are welcome xx

Tantalizing Turquoise

Really been trying the clean, simple but effective look lately and so far it is kinda working. Here is my entry for this week's CD Sunday challenge of Tantalizing Turquoise.

I have used a little kingfisher from the Jayne Netley Mayhew CD from Joanna Sheen and used some handmade turquoise paper, matt and layering with black card and silver mirror card. For embellishments I have used matching gems and paper flowers. For effect I have used a die cut of a leaves in silver.

A close up of the cute little kingfisher.

Hope you like it xx

Pretty In Pink

Hello my lovelies - something a little bit different from me this evening... not sure if it is influenced by the fact I haven't been feeling very well? I am quite pleased with it though.

I made this card from another one of Joanna Sheen's crafting CDs 'Jane Shasky From the Heart of the Garden'. It is a CD jammed full of garden, flowers, bird & butterfly images, beautifully drawn and thought it was about time I had a serious play with it.

You will see that the decoupage topper is much deeper than I usually do, but I like it's tremendous 3D effect. I have therefore kept the card fairly clean and simple so it does not retract for the decoupage itself. I have therefore used silver mirror card for the background and then layered it up with pink card that I have embossed with a new embossing folder with a rose design. Unfortunately due to the size of the topper, you cannot see the full design but it certainly adds texture. I have then added a few faux pearls for embellishment and because they look pretty.

I am entering this card into the CD Sunday - 'Pretty in Pink from Christine' Challenge.

What do you think about it? It's so different for me. No cute animal or bear!

Thanks for reading xx

Ready Teddy Go Challenge - New Beginnings

Been stuck  at home today feeling absolutely dreadful, so I made a card in the attempt to cheer myself up but hasn't really worked. However, I am excited to join in with the Ready Teddy Go Challenge for the first time. I always thought I couldn't enter it because I didn't have any teddies or bears, but then I remembered about Forever Friends and Tatty Teddy!!

So, here is the card I made today and my entry to the January challenge of 'New Beginnings' with this lovely New Baby card featuring a decoupage from the DoCrafts New Arrivals range. The backing paper is from the Forever Friends Spring Time range that came free with Papercraft Essentials a while ago. I also used pale pink card from my stash.

I have used some bunting cut with the Signature by Joanna Sheen bunting die, given it some sparkle with glitter on the bubbles and added some gems.

I have used decoupage sheet and alphabet ribbon from the New Arrivals range.

As well as a peel off from the range too which I think the sentiment 'Little bundle of fun' is lovely and different from the usual 'new baby', 'congratulations' type sentiments.

Thank you for stopping by, hope you like my card. Wish me luck! xx

DT card for *new* Gruffies & Guests Challenge

Happy New Year Crafters!! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year celebrations. We went to my mums house in Lincolnshire for Christmas which was great to catch up with family and Lincolnshire local friends. Lots of sleep was involved which is always a bonus. New Year's Eve we spent with friends Jacq & Ben, enjoying champagne and chocolates. I also got to finally meet and fluff the ears of their baby giant bunny Rupert who was gorgeous despite him frequently trying to eat my furry boots!

Upon reflection 2013 was a fabulous year. Cannot think of much bad happening compared to usual and we went to soo many lovely weddings, parties and went away to Gran Canaria which was the most amazing holiday we've had to date. Here's hoping 2014 is just as special.

Anyway, you may have read that I have joined forces with fellow crafters to start the Gruffies and Guests challenge. Gruffies (bears) along with their friends Happy Hoppers (bunnies) and House Mouse (mice) are characters drawn by artist Ellen Jareckie and brought to the crafting world by my favourite crafter Joanna Sheen in the form of papercrafting CD-Roms, rubber stamps and decoupage sheets. They are so totally delightful and comical - now I have discovered them I use them all the time.

I am so excited to be part of the design team for the Gruffies and Guests Challenge. For the first challenge the theme is 'Anything Goes' and our first sponsor is the fabulous Crafty Ribbons who will give the prize of a £10 voucher to the lucky winner.

This post features my last make of 2013 and the first design team card for 2014. You will see I have used a Happy Hopper image for my card. I am also a big cross stitcher so it seemed natural to use this image. I have used layers of different papers of varying patterns and colours.

You will see I have decoupaged the image and added some beads to the design for extra dimension. I have also used purple ribbon as a backing for fabric flowers with clear gem centres.

Close up of the cross stitching bunny.

It would mean so much to me and the rest of the design team over at Gruffies & Guests Challenge if you got involved and entered your designs. For more information please visit this link.

Thank you for looking, comments are always gratefully received xx
